We have had a really good start to our school year at Lockhart Elementary and it just got better. Lockhart Elementary was just named a Title I “Rewards School” for 2013-2014. This means our data over the past three years has been in the top 10% of all Title I schools in North Carolina. Only 9 of WCPSS 58 Title I schools, were awarded with this top honor. We also received recognition as a Model School for Positive Behavior Intervention Support! These awards just show how hard our staff, students, and families work and support Lockhart Elementary each and every day.
Throughout the school year you will receive many reading reports for you to know exactly where your child ranks on state and national benchmark levels. These reports are geared to you, our parents. When you have parent teacher conferences please let us know how helpful they were for you to understand your child’s reading level. It is crucial that all parents know their child’s reading level and understand what they can do at home as well as what our school is doing to support them on a daily basis. The Read to Achieve Law: House Bill 950/S.L. 2012-142 Section 7A, states that all students that do not pass the Reading EOG in 3rd grade will be retained. We all know this hard work cannot just be accomplished in 3rd Grade. Reading achievement starts at birth and extends throughout a child’s school education. At Lockhart we will work as a team to make sure all students are supported and receive the instruction that best fits their needs.
Report Cards and Home Addresses
This year our will be school mailing all report cards to each student’s home. 1st Quarter Report Cards will be sent to the Post Office on Friday, October 4th. Please make sure we have your current address in our system so report cards are not delayed. Any report cards that are returned to us by the post office will be retrievable in our main office between the hours of 9-11 and 1-3 most days during Track Out. Included with each report card will be our Lockhart Link (monthly newsletter), assessment letters, and PTA updates/information.
School Processes and Procedures-
It only took about 3 days to get morning carpool understood by all of our families. We still have a backup for cars leaving campus making a left on Smithfield Road. I highly encourage all carpool users to take a right on Smithfield Road, a right on Forrestville Road, and a right on Old Knight Road to get you back to Knightdale Blvd. Many days taking “rights” can be much quicker than waiting to take a left.
Afternoon Carpool is moving quickly we are averaging 3:15 when there is no line but we still have 30 students remaining. If you are using our carpool you must pick up your students on time. If you can’t be on time, please consider aftercare for your child.
As stated in the WCPSS student/parent handbook, use of school buses and other transportation that is available for all in our home base is a priviledge and not a right. All students must follow their bus drivers instructions and follow all bus rules and procedures .
As always we want you connected to our school as much as possible for more information about Lockhart you can always visit our website at lockhartes.wcpss.net
